Our Story

The Full Story

My experience in landscaping first started when I was fourteen, working as a maintenance man at Fredonia Place. I started off by mowing and weeding, and shortly after I was doing all of the landscaping work like mulching, planting, and everything else. A year later, I began working construction/property management for a local company in Fredonia, NY. I started off just doing bull work until the crew realized there was something different about me. I wasn't just working 2-4 hour shifts to make some play money like most kids my age. I was working full days just like them. This slowly resulted in me being tasked with more difficult and advanced tasks, while learning a thing or two about the business. That winter hit and I was solely focused on school until I went on vacation and stayed with someone who runs a business of their own. I decided then and there I would start a business of my own. It didn't take very long for me to realize that landscaping would be the perfect business for me. I used the rest of the winter to setup everything online and begin designing advertisements and getting word out. I've always believed that if you're going to do something, do it to the best of your ability or don't do it at all. So, when I got my first order of flyers, I put every single one up in one night, about fifty total. The weather began to change, and the snow was finally gone but I still wasn't getting any calls. So I decided Id just work harder and make failure impossible. I designed a business card and got two hundred and fifty printed. That same night I went door to door with a stack of a hundred and didn't walk back to my car until every single one was gone. About ten houses in it finally happened, I got my first job. This sweet old lady wanted me to cleanup some leaves around her property. All I had was a rake and some elbow grease, but I got it done and was met with a gleaming smile and plenty of appreciation. Since then, I haven't taken my foot off the gas once and it shows. Emerald Edge has served over one hundred and fifty happy customers and branched even further into landscaping, while expanding into construction. What started as a sixteen-year-old walking around door to door with just a rake and some business cards has now grown into a thriving business with plenty of employees, about every piece of equipment imaginable, and most importantly a loyal customer base who would never go back.
